Construction work of Kedarnath Ropeway will begin from October. The tender process for ropeway construction will be completed by 19th this month. After this, other formalities including design will be completed. The work of 13 km long ropeway will be done in two phases, in which 9.7 km from Gaurikund to Kedarnath will be constructed in the first phase.

Other action has also intensified after the approval of the Union Cabinet for the construction of Kedarnath ropeway in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project. The Prime Minister reached Kedarnath and laid the foundation stone of this ropeway on 21 October 2022. With the construction of this ambitious project, Kedarnath Yatra will become simple and accessible. With the formation of ropeway, the distance from Gaurikund to Kedarnath will be completed in just 30 minutes. In the initial time, 1800 passengers will be able to reach Kedarnath from Gaurikund in an hour. Later 3500 passengers per hour will be able to reach Kedarnath from the ropeway.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India has entrusted the responsibility of construction of 13 km long Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway to National Highway Logistics Management Limited (National Highway Logistics Management Limited). For the past two years, the executive body has completed all other formalities along with air and underground survey in several stages from Sonprayag to Kedarnath for the construction of ropeway along with the administration and forest department through agencies. 26 hectares of land has been acquired for the construction of Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway. The ropeway is to be constructed in two phases, in which 9.7 km from Gaurikund to Kedarnath in the first phase and 3.3 km ropeway from Sonprayag to Gaurikund in the second phase.
