Daru may be infamous, but the government has been so proclaimed for the last two years that the Finance Department has given the biggest target to accumulate revenue. To achieve this, the Excise Department has expressed confidence in existing contracts.

The existing contracts are being renewed for two years under the new excise policy. Excise Commissioner Hari Chandra Semwal said that the process of renovation has been more successful than lottery and tender, due to which the department has been achieving revenue target for the last two years.
100 percent in the previous year (2023-24) and currently more than 260 crore revenue has been received in the same period as compared to last year. Therefore, the renewal policy is being adopted. The allocation of wholesale alcohol shops in the state is only for the original residents and the original inhabitants are priority in retail.

At present, there are a total of 647 shops in the state which are reserved for the people of Uttarakhand. Those who do not renew the licensees will be given an opportunity for their shops through lottery.
