Haridwar. In Jwalapur Kotwali area, late Saturday night, police arrested an accused while smuggling hemp. His partner managed to escape with a scooty from the spot. 6.874 kg of cannabis was recovered from the possession of the accused. The accused was filed in the court after registering a case under the NDPS Act, from where he has been sent to jail.

According to the police, on Saturday night, the railway in -charge Naveen Negi was checking the vehicles with the team. During the checking, two youths appeared on a scooty coming from the Jatwara bridge. Seeing the police, Scooty started trying to turn. Meanwhile, the young man sitting on the back on Scooty fell down due to deteriorating balance, while the driver managed to escape with Scooty. When the police caught the falling young man, he found a white plastic katta. On searching the katta, 6.874 kg of cannabis came out.
During interrogation, the accused named his name Vikrant resident Gandhi Nagar Kukra, Muzaffarnagar UP Hall Rama Vihar Jamalpur Kala Police Station Kankhal. Vikrant during the interrogation called his absconding partner named Pradyuman alias Chunnu resident village Ballapur Akheda, Thana Nahataur, District Bijnor. Currently he is living on rent near Ranipur turn. Both Ganja were taking them to the same room from where there was a plan to sell it on a small scale. Kotwali in -charge Amarjeet Singh said that the accused has been produced in court and sent to jail. The absconding accused is being searched.
