54 BRO workers were hit by a heavy avalanche near Mana in Chamoli district. ITBP and army personnel conducted a rescue campaign and found all the people, out of which 46 rescued, while eight were killed.

Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari has ordered a magistrate inquiry into the avalanche accident in Mana on 28 February. The SDM of Joshimath has been appointed as the investigating officer. Eight laborers were killed in this accident.

On the first day, 33 workers were evacuated. NDRF also participated in the rescue campaign on the second day. A body was recovered at around one o’clock in the afternoon. After that the bodies of two other workers were also recovered. The body of the last missing person was recovered at around four in the afternoon. After which the death toll in the accident increased to eight. The rescue campaign was also terminated as the body of the last person was found.
