The state government has decided to conduct a survey in the high area of both Alaknanda and Pinder rivers. A letter has been sent from GSI, Wadia Institute, IIRS to conduct survey.
After heavy avalanche in Mana, the state government has decided to discover the possible barriers of the Ganga, the major tributaries of the Ganges, Alaknanda and Pinder River. For this, survey will be conducted in the high area of both rivers. Secretary (Disaster Management) Vinod Kumar Suman has written a letter to the Deputy Director General of GSI, the Director General of Wadia Himalayan Ground Sciences and the Director of IIRS.

Lonivi and Irrigation Department will also be involved in the survey work. On February 28, there was heavy snowfall and avalanche in the Mana area of the frontier district Chamoli. 55 workers came in its grip. Eight workers were killed in this accident. The government received information about the reasons for the avalanche that the Alaknanda River has problems like blocking of river flows at many places.
Secretary Disaster Management has said in the letter that it is necessary to study Badrinath and Mana in the upper part of Joshimath and study the possibility of adverse effects due to this. He has also expressed the possibility of arising in the upper part of the Pinder River. The Secretary has requested all the institutions to start the survey work soon. Dr. Shantanu, Director of Uttarakhand Landslide Reduction and Management Center, will play an associate with the institutions.
