New Tehri. Solar pumping drinking water scheme is proving beneficial for the people of Guldy village of Chamba block, which is struggling with drinking water shortage. After the construction of solar pumping drinking water scheme, now 55 families of the village are getting adequate water.
In view of the geographical location of Guldy village and limited availability of water sources, the Drinking Water Corporation constructed a solar pumping scheme at a cost of about Rs 44 lakh. EE KN Semwal of Drinking Water Corporation Chamba said that drinking water supply was not possible by pulling water from the pump in Guldy village. Hence the option of solar energy -based pumping system was chosen. Under this, water is being transported to the upper part of the village with the help of pumping by tapping water from the water source located under the village. Drinking water is currently being supplied to about 50 to 55 families per day from this tank with about 30 thousand liters of water storage capacity. Now the responsibility of operation and maintenance of this scheme has been handed over to Gram Panchayat Guldi. A plan has been prepared at a cost of 44 lakhs. The outgoing village head Paramjit Singh Sajwan of Guldy village said that earlier the drinking water in the village was supplied from Chamba pumping in which it took two to three days to reach the water. Now the water shortage has been resolved under the solar pumping scheme under the Water Life Mission.
